Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

navigon-mobile-navigator-7No matter how advanced and pricey your car GPS, you still lose your way because of its limitations. TomTOm might have made the announcement ahead, but with the release of Navigon, TomTom has been beaten to the same pursuit of launching the first iPhone sat-nav application. The app works on 3G and 3GS phones and requires only the 3.0 software. Navigon’s sat-nav app takes full advantage of 3.0’s turn-by-turn navigation on your portable techie gear. Now, who needs a separate sat-nav when you can have it on your phone?
The Navigon MobileNavigator covers the whole of Europe, with only the UK version available for now. The rest of the world is, of course, looking forward to getting their hand on the sat-nav app. Elsewhere, Sygic Mobile Maps that has guided Aussie iPhone users claimed being the first turn-by-turn navigation application to hit the app store. But the point is who produced and released it first. Wink! Wink!
The Navigon MobileNavigator has full GPS – navigation installed in your iPhone, along with map materials. Have this sat-nav that has full, active route guidance, and it can now be said that you have the world in your hands, errr…. just UK and Ireland for the meantime.
If you see in the future a traveling expedition with friends, family or just your partner, the Navigon Mobile Navigator is a worthy investment. There’s a version that includes over 35 European countries at a price of only ₤ 65. The UK and Ireland versions at ₤ 38 is also out now.

That is Nu•M8. And it’s the best news for parents and their children ever.
The Nu•M8 has been dubbed in UK as the innovative best friend for parents whose children are loaded with extra energy and friendliness. Yes, face it. Kids these days tend to run ahead or to the other direction and gets lost in the malls or better yet, meet new pals in the vast world of playgrounds and parks. When the kids are not within the parents reach, everyone normally freaks out and dials the local emergency number. What a hassle!

This is where Nu•M8 comes helpful to both parents and the kids. In a form of a humble digital watch, the kids are within reach as it is actually a GPS tracking device, making your kids always in a safe zone even if you can’t actually see them. The Nu•M8 watch-like tracking device lets you set a safe zone for your little rascals and dames. It sets of an alert automatically when the kids go beyond the set zones. Laptop, desktop and GPS merger foreseen, It may be sooner than you think.

map-googleFor people who are using mobile devices and their laptops to browse the web wherever they are, Geolocation is a usual word. Whether they’re at home, on the road or in their work place, people just want to stay online. The new main features of Firefox 3.5 and also in Chrome and other browsers with the Google Gears add-on installed, it is now supported by Google Maps on the desktop as well! This should be great news for those who want to stay online all the time!
Just click on Google Maps with a supported web browser, and there you will see a new My Location button on the top left corner of the map. Once you click the button to the center of the map, you will get your approximate location. With where you are determined accurately, you will be shown a blue circle just like on the Google Maps for mobile. You may also click the button the second time to remove the blue circle or re-center the map after you have moved it somewhere.
Compared with having it on your mobile devices, Geolocation on your desktop or laptops is not as accurate. But no fret as the fault is with the basic technology and hardware because most computers still don’t have GPS capacities incorporated yet. Still, many people take matters into their hands and buy a GPS for their computers, but there are some who are crossing their fingers that manufacturers will add this helpful feature soon. The browsers that support Geolocation will have to depend on WiFi information as they don’t have a GPS device, or others can simply get back to the IP. Today, only Firefox 3.5 has this advantageous technology by default.
For many, Geolocation is not that accurate, but with WiFi hotsports mapped out with, it should be helpful for those who do not want to get lost in a new place.

Climbers can now have safer adventures with GPS

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Road_to_Ben_NevisAny form of adventure, particularly mountain or rock climbing, should be coupled with expertise and a fit body. Still some mountains are more treacherous than others, like those in Scotland where the mountainside, the traverse to the peaks and the countryside pose perilous journeys. True, many mountain climbers, hikers and natural scientists who brave peaks and the surrounding areas do have the technology needed to find their way, but improper and lack of basic knowledge on using such technologies still pose dangers for their activities.
To ensure mountain climbers in their adventure, they will now be given lessons on how to make use of their global positioning system (GPS) gadgets. This came after reports of experts on mountain safety piled up that climbers continue to endanger themselves with insufficient knowledge of the GPS device.
The Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCofS) will be running a series of training courses to equip the climbers and walkers with the right know-how in using their GPS devices. From the basic uses to more advanced applications of their GPS, participants to the training will then be equipped with tools such as getting grid reference. Also, the courses from the council will include using of GPS tools to navigate through mountains, water forms and other areas adjacent to the peak they are hoping to climb. This way, the council hopes to keep climbers and hikers from getting lost and becoming disoriented, and give them advanced information about where they are headed, as well as optional routes they may take.
Some people disagree with the move to advance knowledge on GPS as a mountaineering tool, arguing that the map and compass has been tried and tested for decades, and proved enough for people who love the adventure. Still, many welcome the idea as essential for every mountain climber’s safety.

apple-tomtom-iphoneIt’s good news for all of who have waited really long for the iPhone apps from TomTom. We’ve been loyal, anticipating and eager to get those turn-by-turn voice GPS from the same company we’ve purchased other reliable products from. Now the wait is over! AppleInsider just made a statement that TomTom will hit the app store later this summer!
The other thing we’ve learned is that the TomTom iPhone car kit is more super than the old iPhone version as it has its own GPS system. The manufacturer has guaranteed the new product’s edges are so far ahead, starting with its dedicated speaker. Now we can look forward to getting iPhone easier to understand and comprehend amid the noisy traffic.
Also, the new TomTom device has various maps inside to provide more updated maps and changes in routes you need to take. Download of regular updates should come much easier now as it doesn’t have to use 3G network.
On the other hand, it’s CoPilot Live that has won the tight race for first-to-launch among companies dedicated to GPS and satellite navigation systems for Android phones. Yes, it still has our all-time favorite satnav functions in the Android phones, like the GOS navi-guide, lane indicators included. We will still get as well those reality sign post information and turn-by-turn voice directions, of course.
With CoPilot Live’s release, we’re over-eager for those enhanced GPS navigation guidance and flickable scrolling menus – the ease of our drive comes into hand! Also, the CoPilot has those safety camera alerts and helpful maps at touchscreen recognition.
Of course, we get more than that as well. CoPilot Live also lets us use online features like location sharing. Didn’t you wish for this so you can see your friends on-screen and share your location with them? Well, you got it!

Navigon MobileNavigator and iPhone, a formidable duo.

Friday, July 24th, 2009

navigon-mobilenavigator-iphoneNavigon has again won yet another race to being the best choice among navigation gadgets. With the MobileNavigator App for iPhone recently released and now available at Apple’s AppStore, Navigon has again edged by miles its competitors.
Since the release of the iPhone 3.0 software, all other companies have stated their support for the updated platform that opens new possibilities, and Navigon just made its support concrete and comfy for a multitude of iPhone users.
The MobileNavigator is the first turn-by-turn navigation application in Europe with price pegged at £54.99. The device features, among others, landscape and portrait support, the much amusing and helpful Reality View Pro and that special function where users can auto-resume following a phone call. The latest addition to Navigon’s showcase of products also has 2D and 3D display features.
Many users and loyal Navigon followers are thankful for the auto-resume ability of the gadget. This is because iPhones are not made for multi-tasking. Hence, when one takes a call, a running application should be exited from whenever calls are being made or taken. But with the auto-resume feature, MobileNavigator will sure be the most preferred in the market.
The device also comes with Real Road sign pro, the Lane Assistant Pro, and the Speed Assistant which are remarkable guides to driving like a pro – and safely! The MobileNavigator also has the day and night mode among its key features where the driving and riding public can gain easier access whatever time of day they want to. Users can also get the options of displaying points of POIs along their routes.
Many Navigon device users are also eager for latest developments from the manufacturer after hearing that a free, lite version will be released soon, and will come without the active route guidance.

MyDrive Intelligent nav system makes you drive like a Pro.

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Gone are the days when your satellite navigator is showing you how to get from Point A to Point B. With the new MyDrive sat-nav comes the highly advanced technology to make your future driving experience that of a pro! No more distance and time estimates of old car counters, and helps you drive much more easily.
satnav-143x143 MyDrive can show you the best routes to take when facing a traffic jam and other inconvenient conditions on the road. It also shows petrol prices and give you stream live TV, and the leading search engines also come with it, making the rest of the world so much accessible to you while you’re driving on the road. Another MyDrive feature that is such a blast is it has the list of accurate journey times estimates based on the speed of your driving.
While many sat-navs employ their journey time based on fixed speeds for different road types, MyDrive zooms ahead by monitoring your speed depending on your car make or how you step up on the gas. Real time traffic has never been accounted this excellently and accurately by existing sat-navs in the market. Of course, MyDrive still has those reliable map share system and perks for the music lovers, voice command and control and hands-free calling system.
The MyDrive software is a highly personalized gadget for any driver as it learns his driving habit. With more accurate evaluation of journey time and the other behavior and practices of the driver, and other stored information, MyDrive is able to suggest different routes more suited for the situation.
We’re crossing our fingers that the MyDrive sat-nav makers will take into account the need to have this technology personalized. It should be the next logical move after making the MyDrive internet connection reliable, fast and consistent wherever you’re driving.
